Graham Charles Lay
19th January 1960 – 27th November 2016.
It is with great sadness we wish to record the death of Graham Lay on the 27th November 2016. Graham was a friend of all the Staff at Wallis and Wallis. He attended every auction at the firm in his capacity as Public Relations representative, a position he held for the past 14 years.
Graham’s career started at King & Chasemore in 1975 as a porter and he moved to London in 1978 when Sotheby took over the firm. He later worked for Bonhams being their representative based in Jersey.
About 25 years ago Graham joined the BBC Antiques Roadshow team putting his broad knowledge to great use on the miscellaneous table. Four years ago, when I retired from the show after 35 years, Graham took over the Arms, Armour and Militaria slot on the programme. He made a great success with his charming way of handling the public and drawing out some interesting stories.
His cremation took place on the 9th December and was attended by his wife, family, friends and also a large number of his colleagues from the Antiques Roadshow.
He will always be sadly missed by all.
