WWI DSM to "T.S. 2542. J.M. Robertson. LDG.TRIM. R.N.R. "PLUMPTON". Minesweeping. 18Oct.-18Nov.1918.", VF with ribbon. On the morning of 19th October 1918 HMS Plumpton and other minesweepers were sweeping mines off Ostend Pier. HMS Plumpton struck a mine killing or injuring many of the crew. Eng. Lt. Holt R.N.R. lead a party of men including Robertson into the stoke hold to rescue a trapped and injured man. Robertson had volunteered in spite of being wounded, being awarded the DSM along with the other members of the rescue party. The medal is displayed in a card mount with a photograph of HMS Plumpton, a printed account of the sinking, a list of the killed and wounded and a copy of the entry in The London Gazette. The card mount has suffered from some water damage.
